UNLA’s expert work on elections in wartime presented in the United States
The Ukrainian National Lobbyists Association’s expert experience in conducting elections in wartime was presented in the United States during an international professional discussion at George Washington University.
During a panel discussion on “The Impact of Internal Factors on Ukrainian Diplomacy” organized for American journalists and political experts, Golda Vynohradska, a representative of the UNLA expert community, presented the results of the work of the expert group formed following the roundtable discussion at Ukrinform organized by the National Association of Lobbyists of Ukraine.
The discussion was attended by leading American and Ukrainian analysts, including William Taylor, Henry Gale, Jill Dougherty, Mykhailo Alekseev, Timothy Frye, Nadiya Burenko, and Oleksiy Haran. The discussion was focused not only on the security situation, but also on how internal political processes in Ukraine directly affect its international position and diplomatic decisions.
During his speech, he emphasized the key risk of the Russian Federation using the topic of elections as an instrument of international pressure and information operations against Ukraine. In particular, attention was drawn to attempts to potentially manipulate the participation of Ukrainian citizens in the territory of the aggressor state in the electoral process.
During the discussion, the position developed by the expert group within the framework of the UNLA roundtable was presented, according to which holding elections in a security uncontrolled environment or on the territory of the aggressor state does not meet the standards of democratic expression of will and cannot be considered legitimate.
The international presentation of the UNLA’s findings was an important element of explanatory work with foreign partners on the Ukrainian vision of the post-war electoral process and the need to prevent the use of electoral issues as an instrument of hybrid aggression.
The Ukrainian National Lobbyists Association continues systematic expert and international communication to protect Ukraine’s democratic procedures and form a consolidated position at the international level.
