Vice-President of the Ukrainian National Lobbyists Association Oleksandr Chernykh attends a meeting of the All-Party Group on Ukraine in the Scottish Parliament

Vice President of the Ukrainian National Lobbyists Association Oleksandr Chernykh took part in a meeting of the All-Party Group on Ukraine held in Edinburgh at the Scottish Parliament. The meeting included a presentation by a representative of the Global Coalition of Ukrainian Studies (Olena Zelenska’s project), who presented the Global Coalition of Ukrainian Studies platform and invited Scottish universities to join international academic cooperation. It was noted that during the last visit of the First Lady, six UK universities had already joined the platform.

The participants of the meeting expressed interest in developing scientific and educational projects, in particular in the context of expanding international scientific cooperation between Ukraine and Scotland.

The active work of the AUGB, which creates a learning space for Ukrainian children in Scotland and supports important educational initiatives, was emphasized.

The visit was informative and constructive within the scope of the areas that Oleksandr Chernykh leads at the Ukrainian National Lobbyists Association. Based on its results, the following steps have been outlined:

  1. Organize work with universities that may be interested in joining the Ukrainian legislative drafting programs.
  2. Preparation of specific proposals for deepening scientific cooperation.
  3. Intensification of cooperation between Ukrainian and Scottish scientific institutions, which is especially important given the support of the Coalition by the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

The previous experience of holding scientific events in Scotland shows that there is sufficient interest and opportunities to deepen cooperation. The Scottish legal system is close to Ukraine, as it is a system of continental law and has advanced regulation in the field of energy, environmental protection, social standards and high standards of justice. The combination of the UK judicial system and the Scottish system of law provides a unique basis for the implementation of the concepts set out in the 100-year old Agreement between Ukraine and the United Kingdom and the application of English law in the Ukrainian legal system, which, like the Scottish system, is a continental system of law.
